Our workshops

have been formed with the aim of providing a level of tuition in the arts which respects the fundamental skills of looking, seeing and making.  The courses we offer have, at their roots, skills which are traditional yet always contemporary.  Most are suitable for complete beginners.

Simon Cooley

has been teaching for 35 years and has always been a working sculptor.  He works in forged metal, stone and clay.  He exhibits regularly in the UK and his work is in private collections internationally.  He has also run short courses for Central St Martin’s School of Art in London.  Visit his sculpture site here: www.simoncooley.com

This weekend was really important for me. I was condemned by every art and craft teacher as being unsuited and unskilled in all things artistic.

Abstract Sculpture (5 days) - £700

Max. 6 people. A new course which will aim to realise your ideas for sculpture in metal, stone, clay, wood, plaster - or a combination of them. It will also be open to the production of drawings or a two-dimensional approach.
(A pre-requisite is that participants will need to have either attended one of Simon's workshops or have experience of working in these materials elsewhere. We hold stocks of materials, but if you wish to work with a particular type of stone or wood for example, then this will need to be discussed, ordered and charged for in advance. )

Metal Sculpture (4 days) - £500

Max. 6 people. A forge-based workshop focusing on the creation of sculpture.
(Please note this is a physically demanding course, involving the use of hammer, anvil and fire. )

Max. 10 people. Making a sculpture in stone
(Please note we have a selection of Bath and Portland stone, but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish.)
